Achillea 'Oertel's Rose' is evergreen with green, fern-like foliage. Oertel's Rose is more compact than other Yarrow with a mature height of 12"-15" in bloom. Bloom clusters open rose-pink and age to white through the Summer. Deadheading encourages more blooms and reduce spreading. Can be cut back to basal leaves to refresh foliage and encourage more blooms late Summer.
Oertel's Rose Yarrow prefers well drained, average to poor soil and tolerates heat, humidity and drought. Use for borders, in mass for naturalizing, wildflower gardens, rock gardens and mixed beds. Tolerates poor soil and drought conditions. Moderately salt tolerant. Suitable for cut flowers and attracts butterflies. More compact than most Yarrow. Mature height 12"-15", spread 18"-24"
Yarrow is one of the easiest perennials to grow and is a good choice for beginners. All it needs is full sun and well-drained soil. It thrives in average to poor soil and is drought tolerant once established. Plants grown in rich soil tend to be tall and floppy. After the flowers have faded, cut the plant back by half. This will likely stimulate a second flush of blooms in late summer. These plants are an excellent balance of finely textured foliage and bright flower colors. The wide, flat flower clusters are popular landing pads with pollinators.
In the right location, yarrow can spread aggressively. Plants from seed are not reliable to be true to variety. Divide every few years to keep plants to a manageable size.
