'River Mist' grows and looks much like the species but has bright green and white striped bamboo-like foliage. In late summer, silvery green, oat-like seed heads are produced on arching stems. The seeds turn copper in the fall and make an interesting addition to cut flower bouquets. Like the species, this plant tends to reseed but the seedlings will come up green, so you'll want to relocate them to another part of your garden.

Chasmanthium latifolium is native to the wooded slopes and damp forests of southeastern North America, from Texas north to Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Northern Sea Oats is a clumping that is treasured for its showy, drooping flowers and unique bamboo-like foliage. Its tendency to reseed makes it an ideal choice for mass plantings. The seed heads also make interesting cut flowers in both fresh and dried arrangements.
Chasmanthium latifolium is tolerant of most conditions from sun to shade, and wet to dry locations. However, it will do best in moist soil and part shade. When the seeds are mature, they can be picked for fresh or dried flower arrangements.

The most important part of the plant is its root system. Healthy roots are the foundation of a healthy, vibrant plant. The type of plug container used is based on the specific needs of the plants. Perennials offered as bare root traditionally perform better when planted as bare root.Planted in a specialized mix, potted plants have well established root systems. Top growth stage will vary depending on the current life cycle and time of year when shipped. In Winter and early Spring dormant plants may be shipped. Dormant plants may be planted right away, even before the last frost date.
Most bare root varieties are field grown for at least one season, though Hemerocallis and Hosta are grown for two seasons. The bulk of the soil is removed during the harvesting process and the tops of most varieties are trimmed back to the crown. They are graded, packed in shredded aspen or sphagnum moss and stored in freezers until ready to be shipped.
