Vivid, fluorescent neon pink 1+ inch flowers above a compact mound of thick, silvery-green, evergreen foliage.
Prefers loose, well-drained, and neutral to slightly alkaline soils. Tolerant of short periods of drought.Use in rock gardens, scented gardens and for a border. This fragrant member of the carnation family reblooms, especially if deadheaded.
introduction from breeder John Whetman of HR Whetman and Son in Devon, England, described as alpine dianthus, 'Neon Star' is actually more complex and an improvement over the species.
