Product Description
Echinacea 'Raspberry Beret' PPAF CPBRAF (30)ct Flat
DOUBLE CODED™ Collection
Common Name: Coneflower
'Raspberry Beret' has fully double intense raspberry pink flowers, 4" wide, with ray petals to match. Petals are slightly lighter than the cone.
A complementing series of fully double Coneflowers to the single flowered COLOR CODED® collection. Varieties in this series have prolific floral production seated atop dense rosettes of foliage. Broad, horizontal ray petals maximize flower size. Plants are low, wide, and well-branched allowing for use along the front of the border. Enjoy as these perennials burst into life under the heat of midsummer.
Praised for their cheerful brightly colored flowers, coneflowers are a mainstay in today's garden. Be sure to leave some spent blooms on the plants in the fall because their seeds provide winter food for finches and other birds. The dried seed heads also provide architectural interest in the winter.
Coneflowers like it sunny and hot. Though they will tolerate light shade, fewer flowers will be produced, and the plants will be weakened. Light, loamy soils are best, but coneflowers will grow in any well-drained soil. Once established, they are quite drought tolerant. If properly cared for, they will form attractive colonies and will live for many years.

Echinacea 'Raspberry Beret' is a relatively new cultivar of coneflower, part of the Proven Winners Double Coded™ series, which complements the single-flowered Color Coded® series. This stunning variety is a favorite among gardeners for its prolific blooms, compact size, and low-maintenance nature. It boasts fully double, intense raspberry pink flowers, making it a vibrant and cheerful addition to any garden. This versatile plant can be used in borders, containers, mass plantings, and even as cut or dried flowers.
Characteristics This coneflower is a medium-sized perennial, with an upright growth habit, making it a "thriller" in garden design. It typically reaches a height of 18-20 inches and a spread of 22-24 inches. The fully double flowers are approximately 4 inches wide, with broad, horizontal ray petals that create a full, lush appearance. The ray petals are a vibrant raspberry pink, a shade slightly lighter than the central cone, creating a lovely depth of color. The plant has dense rosettes of green foliage that provide an attractive contrast to the bright flowers. Echinacea 'Raspberry Beret' is also fragrant, adding another dimension to its appeal. It is also deer resistant, making it a worry-free addition to gardens frequented by these animals.
Plant Needs This coneflower thrives in sunny and hot locations with well-drained soil. While it tolerates light shade, it performs best in full sun for optimal flowering and plant vigor. Once established, it is quite drought tolerant. It prefers average to fertile soil and can tolerate a wide range of soil pH, from acidic to alkaline. Echinacea 'Raspberry Beret' blooms profusely from summer through early fall. It is hardy in zones 4-8.
Care Echinacea 'Raspberry Beret' is a low-maintenance plant, but proper care ensures optimal growth and flowering. It thrives in sunny and hot locations with well-drained soil. While it can tolerate some shade, full sun exposure is best. The plant prefers average water and is drought tolerant once established. It can grow in average, fertile, or even poor soil and tolerates a wide range of soil pH.
Uses Echinacea 'Raspberry Beret' is a versatile plant with a variety of uses:
- Beds and Borders: Its compact size and upright habit make it an excellent choice for borders and beds. It can be planted along the front of the border due to its low and wide growth habit.
- Containers: It can be grown in containers to add a pop of color to patios and decks. When grown in containers, it makes a great "thriller" plant, and can be combined with "filler" plants like 'Plum Pudding' Coral Bells and "spiller" plants like 'Goldilocks' Creeping Jenny.
- Cut Flowers: The vibrant blooms make long-lasting cut flowers for bouquets.
- Dried Flowers: The flowers can also be dried and used in arrangements.
- Mass Plantings: When planted in masses, Echinacea 'Raspberry Beret' creates a stunning display of color.
- Wildlife: It attracts butterflies and songbirds to the garden. The seed heads provide winter food for birds, particularly finches, and also add visual interest to the winter garden.
Some suggested companion plants include Heuchera 'Wildberry', Pennisetum 'Lemon Squeeze', Perovskia 'Denim 'n Lace', Phlox 'Opening Act Pink-a-Dot', Sedum 'Coraljade', and Veronica 'Ever After'.
Maintenance To encourage more blooms and maintain a tidy appearance, deadhead spent flowers. However, leaving some spent blooms in the fall provides food for birds and winter interest. Water the plants well until established, especially during the first growing season. A soaker hose or drip irrigation system can be used to water efficiently without wetting the foliage, which can help prevent fungal diseases. Fertilize garden-grown coneflowers once in early spring with a balanced granular fertilizer. Container-grown plants may require more frequent fertilization, about once a month from April through September.
Echinacea 'Raspberry Beret' is a beautiful and versatile plant that can add a touch of vibrant color to any garden. Its prolific blooms, compact size, and attractiveness to wildlife make it a favorite among gardeners. Whether used in borders, containers, or as cut flowers, this coneflower is sure to impress. With its beauty, versatility, and ease of care, Echinacea 'Raspberry Beret' is a must-have for any gardener seeking to add a touch of vibrant color and attract pollinators to their garden.

Other Details
The most important part of the plant is its root system. Healthy roots are the foundation of a healthy, vibrant plant. The type of plug container used is based on the specific needs of the plants. Perennials offered as bare root traditionally perform better when planted as bare root.Planted in a specialized mix, potted plants have well established root systems. Top growth stage will vary depending on the current life cycle and time of year when shipped. In Winter and early Spring dormant plants may be shipped. Dormant plants may be planted right away, even before the last frost date.
Most bare root varieties are field grown for at least one season, though Hemerocallis and Hosta are grown for two seasons. The bulk of the soil is removed during the harvesting process and the tops of most varieties are trimmed back to the crown. They are graded, packed in shredded aspen or sphagnum moss and stored in freezers until ready to be shipped.

Plant information and care is provided in the Overview section, Plant Genus Page and general information is provided in the Planting Care & Guides. Additional questions can be asked on each Plant page.
Plant Spacing: Using the maximum mature spread or width of a plant to guide spacing, ensures space to grow to full size. To fill an area sooner, plant them closer together. Just remember, future thinning or transplanting may be needed.
Water: Keep a close eye on newly planted perennials, especially throughout the first growing year. Most early plant loss is due to too much or too little water!
