Ardisia (ard-diz-ee-uh), coralberry; Primulaceae Family. Ardisia is a subtropical evergreen sub-shrub. Plant in sandy to clay well-drained soils, though it prefers moist, rich conditions. Spreads by underground runners.
Use as a groundcover under shrubs or trees, as a border plant, or in mass plantings. Grows in the shade even where grass does not grow. Suitable for a deep ground cover in peaty woodlands. Good substitute for Pachysandra in warmer zones. Deer and rabbit resistant.
