TRADESCANTIA pallida 'Purple Heart'
a/k/a Purpurea and Purple Queen. Sometimes mistakenly called Purple Wandering Jew which is actually its cousin, Tradescantia zebrine.
Zone 7 to 11, tender perennial in zone 7 and 8.
Full sun or filtered sun.
Mature foliage height 12 to 18 inches, herbaceous sprawling ground cover.
Purple foliage of succulent stems and smooth pointed leaves, with pink flowers. Best purple leaf color occurs in full sun.
Grow in rich, moist, well-drained soils. Drought tolerant.
Use in hanging baskets, container gardens, as a groundcover, in rock gardens, and for tropical effects. Downward-trailing stems are perfect for hanging baskets and walls. Pinch stems to maintain plant shape and to stimulate new growth.
