Mazus reptans blue
a/k/a Creeping mazus, Blue mazus.
Zone: 4 to 8, may need to mulch or protection in zone 4 and 5.
Full sun to part shade.
Mature size: 3 inch height, quick spreading groundcover.
Narrow, bright green leaves form a dense, foliage carpet. Tiny, purplish-blue, tubular, orchid-like flowers with yellow and white markings appear in small clusters from late spring / early summer to frost. Semi-evergreen, low, creeping perennial.
Grow in average, medium to wet, well-drained soil; for best performance place in moist, rich soil. Plant six plants per square yard.
Excellent ground cover or can be used as a lawn substitute in situations where foot traffic is somewhat minimal, between stepping stones and in rock gardens. Use as an under planting for bulbs and lilies. Deer resistant. |
