Mature size: 30 to 36 inches height and width, clump-forming perennial.
Numerous deep maroon buds open as 4-petaled, butterfly-shaped flowers of reddish pink with white stamens. Flowers appear in open panicles on rigid, wiry stems, blooming from last spring to early summer. Deadheading and pruning can extend bloom season into autumn. Narrow, lance-shaped, leaves are stippled with maroon.
Easy to grow in sandy, loamy, medium moisture, well-drained soil. Tolerates heat, humidity and some drought, but make sure it is in a well-drained location.
Works in rock gardens, or as mid to background garden feature. Attracts butterfly gardens and use for cut flowers.
