Sedum 'Autumn Joy' (25) plants
a/k/a stonecrop. Hylotelephium 'Herbstfreude'.
Zone: 3 to 10.
Full sun.
Mature size: 18 to 24 inch height and width.
Round, fleshy blue-green leaves with clusters of closely packed, rosy pink flowers that appear in late summer, age to a salmon bronze and finish with a deep coppery red in fall. Flowers are tremendously attractive to butterflies and bees. Strong stems hold the ornamental dried flower heads aloft all winter long.
Grow in average, medium to wet, well-drained soil; somewhat soil tolerance except for wet, poorly-drained soils. Excellent in rock gardens, along paths and in containers. Drought and heat tolerant, once established. Deer resistant.
Easy-to-grow plant that not only tolerates drought, but seems to thrive in it. Tall, upright foliage clumps support massive flower heads that develop in summer before bursting into fall bloom. If left standing, they provide winter interest and food for birds.
